Design
Each of our books goes through a careful design process before going into production.
To ensure a book that is highly practical as well as beautiful, we work with experts, including Fellows of the Royal National Institute for Navigation, making sure to get the details just right.
All our logbooks are designed to be as generous in pages as possible without compromising the strength of the book.
Printing
We print only in the UK, working with a small press that understands our need for attention to detail and extremely high quality. Printing is with legendary Heidelberg printing equipment onto heavyweight 120 gram writing paper; giving a smooth but bright finish that’s perfect for recording information in pen or pencil.
Marbling
Since we made our first book hand marbled endpapers lining the inside cover have been a signature of our designs.
Jemma Lewis, an award winning paper marbler, supplies us with our endpapers specially to order. The Folio Society made this video about the marbling process; worth a watch if you would like to understand what goes into just one sheet…
Binding
Traditional bookbinding makes our books very different from what you might find on the high street. Each is bound and ‘cased in’ to order by a master bookbinder. It does take a little longer, but it’s worth it.
Section sewing pages by hand makes for a strong but flexible spine that folds pleasingly flat on a table to write in.
Personalisation
All of our books can be personalised and up to twenty characters of text is included in the price.
We can also produce custom logos and lettering dies to emboss books for a small extra change. This is charged on a one off basis and can be used again for any future books at no additional cost.
